Senegal: Fishery exports reached 192,000 tons in 2016

(Ecofin Agency) - In 2016, Senegal’s fish exports stood at 192,000 tons generating FCFA204 billion, according to Agence de presse sénégalaise. 

According to Diène Ndiaye, director of the fishery processing industries at the ministry of fishery and maritime economy, this amount represented about 14.6% of total export earnings. 

Still on the same trend, the sector held the first position in regards to foreign exchange revenues over the first half of 2017, with the related value soaring 10.29% compared to last year, the official added.  

Let’s recall that the fishery sector employs more than 220,000 in the country and is structured into maritime, traditional and industrial fishing. With an output of about 450,000 tons of fish products every year, Senegal is one of the main fish-producing nations in West Africa.
