(Ecofin Agency) - This year, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) owned by Zambia is planning to invest $4 million for the construction of a pineapple processing company in Mwinilunga, in the Northwest, Freshplaza reports.

The infrastructure will have a daily processing capacity of 3 tons of fruits. For its raw material supply, it will rely on a network of more than 3,000 independent producers in Ikelenge, Lumwana West, and Mwinilunga.

According to Mateyo Kaluba (left on photo), CEO of IDC group, this desire to invest in such project follows conclusive feasibility studies and the administrative board’s approval.

The initiative which is aimed at increasing added value in the region should create 100 permanent jobs as well as 8,000 indirect jobs.
