(Ecofin Agency) - An 8-day training session on sustainable land development just ended in Kenya. “The use of media in sustainable land management” targeting 30 African communication specialists, the session was co-organized by the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) and non-governmental organization Terrafrica.
“Conscious of the abuses we suffer, related to our lands’ degradation, conscious of what changes and deteriorates our planet which is fragile and irreplaceable, conscious most importantly that all these are caused by man and that he is the one to act upon, and finally conscious that medias have a major role to play in tackling degradation, the NEPAD agency has invited various communication specialists coming from close to 30 African nations and generally members of Terrafrica,” said Fatou Niang, communication expert at the ministry of environment and sustainable development, according to Senpresse.
Senegal’s representative at the meeting, added that “the objective is to improve professionals’ skills in the framework of SLM (Sustainable Land Management) investigations, better equip them so that they are involved more into key activities, and also in order for them to be able to write articles and sensitize on land degradation, desertification, drought, as well as on advantages of sustainable land management”.
