(Ecofin Agency) - Togo’s High Authority for Broadcasting and Communication (HAAC) has during a meeting held on October 12, 2017, with Press leaders, given details concerning the sum and provision and repartition modalities of the State subsidy to the press for 2016.
Regarding the amount, it is CFA100 million that the government has disbursed. The technical commission in charge of the subsidy’s management has revealed that press bodies had to submit eligibility applications this year. It was only after these were assessed and based on multiple criteria that beneficiaries were selected. Conditions fixed include a more than 51% rate of releases for written press entities; to be more than a year old; never having been sanctioned by the HAAC or the Togolese Media Observatory (OTM).
Thus, out of 91 applicants, 86 were green-lit by the Commission. Allocated funds vary according to the type of media, be it a radio station, a TV channel or a written press media, and here again, the period of existence matters greatly. The list of beneficiaries will be available at the HAAC and the press associations’ main office.
