(Ecofin Agency) - This Nigerian music label hit a record on Instagram’s popularity chart. Its name is Mavin Records. Owned by producer and singer Don Jazzy, the label passed on Nov. 11, 2016, the bar of one million followers on the social network.
Mavin Records thus beat major labels such as Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, Def Jam Records, Atlantic Records, Maybach Music Group, Cash Records or even Ovo Sound.
Announcing in person his label’s feat, Don Jazzy said: “Just as we all know that the social media is a very strong media of interaction among people today, we see this new achievement of hitting a million followers as no mean feat for which we would always appreciate everyone following us on any of our social media platforms”
The label produced some Nigerian artists who have grown quite popular. These include Tiwa Sava, Korede Bello, D’Prince, Di’Ja, Reekado Banks and DR SID.
“We got to this point because we have amazing artists who have incredible and passionate fans that follow and engage with us daily. This milestone is incredible when you consider we have 20 times the followers of Sony Music, one of the world’s biggest labels and we were able to achieve this as Africa is still getting online,” said Tunji Afonja, Chief Digital Officer of Mavin Records.
