Major brands suspend advertising campaigns on YouTube overs issues with children content

(Ecofin Agency) - Accusing YouTube of exposing children to violent and inappropriate content, major advertisers like Mars, Adidas, Adidas, HP, Lidl or Sky have suspended their advertising campaigns on the social network. This decision follows a wave of complaints by the general public, started a few days ago subsequent to the publishing of inappropriate images and comments in YouTube’s section reserved for kids and families.

On November 24, Google which owns YouTube, promised to “take a break with all content for families and all ads for children”. The firm also reassured that from now on, a person will be in charge of monitoring instead of algorithms.

Indeed, the use of algorithms to determine content that can be accessed by kids was often criticized, but YouTube had on every occasion the debate arose remained mute.
