(Ecofin Agency) - Czech investors have agreed to buy from South African giant Naspers its online auction website Aukro.cz, Reuters revealed. However, the price of the transaction was not disclosed.
Aukro.cz has 3.8 million registered users. It is part of Polish Allegro group which Naspers has put up for sale this year. So far, media said Naspers received four offers for the Polish assets. Allegro is the leader of the online auction market in Eastern Europe. The media also indicated that the South African group could gain up to $2.2 billion from the transaction.
Founded in 1999, Allegro was acquired in 2008, by Naspers. With a customer pool of 14 million users, Allegro faces stiff competition in the Polis e-commerce market, despite this one’s good perspectives for growth. Indeed, the market’s size should double by 2020, a study by Sociomantic Labs forecast. Poland’s e-commerce market presently weighs $8.2 billion with about 22,000 online shops.
Though selling Allegro or Aukro.cz, Naspers remains in the market with its OLX.pl platform.
