(Ecofin Agency) - The Mozambican government and Anadarko Petroleum are in the process of signing an agreement that will result in the commencement of natural gas extraction operations in the Rovuma basin, in Cabo Delgado province.
According to Al Walker, the chief executive of the Anadarko, when signed, the agreement will resolve problem associated with contracts and legal framework, which are essentials in ensuring security for the project and economic value in the long term.He however did not disclose further information such as dates but noted that it is also necessary to take into consideration the doubts caused by the declining liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices on the international market.
State-owned company ENH had advised that the natural gas extraction process should be accelerated, or else the country might lose the opportunity as it has set 2016 as a crucial year for creating solid foundations for the commencement of operations.
Ever since natural gas was discovered in the Rovuma basin six years ago, Anadarko Petroleum is yet to make a final investment decision, which is the last step before forging ahead with the project, Macauhub news reports.
