(Ecofin Agency) - Sonatrach has concluded a partnership agreement with Total to carry out a feasibility study as part of the construction of a giant petrochemical complex. The agreement was signed between the Director General of Sonatrach, Amine Mazouzi and Total’s CEO, Patrick Pouyanné.
After the signing ceremony of the document, the two sides agreed to strengthen their partnership in the hydrocarbon production chain in Algeria and abroad. The two parties seek to jointly exploit new opportunities in the sector, Algeria Press Service reports.
Algeria is seeking to establish itself as a global energy hub by 2020. The country is making efforts to boost its oil and gas production with particular emphasis on petrochemicals. A few days ago, the head of Sonatrach announced that the company is currently negotiating with international partners to form five joint ventures in the sector.
Total has a multi-year expertise in the petrochemical industry in the world, making it a partner of choice for Sonatrach in its petrochemical projects.
