(Ecofin Agency) - Sierra Leone’s parliament has approved the construction of the Bumbuna II hydropower dam which will have a production capacity of 143 MW. The dam will be an extension of the 50 MW Bumbuna I dam.
Its construction will be carried out by Seli Hydropower, an entity that is jointly held by Joule Africa and its local partner Energy Services Company. Works will begin in the second half of 2018 and are expected to last about four years. Seli Hydropower will not only build the infrastructure but also will operate it and own it.
“The development of Bumbuna II has always been an important part of the country’s long-term energy strategy. We look forward to being able to deliver affordable, all-year round power for the consumers of Sierra Leone,” said Patrick Beckley, chairman of Seli Hydropower.
