(Ecofin Agency) - By 2030, all of Angola’s population will have access to electricity. This was announced by Armindo da Conceição Mussongo, director general of the Electricity Staff Training Centre of the Minisry of Energy and Water.
“To achieve this goal in 2030, we must proceed to up to 250,000 connections each year, in rural zones especially. These connections will be made through the national power grid as well as with off-grid alternatives,” he said.
According to the official, this goal will be achieved through the participation to UN’s SE4ALL (Sustainable Energy for All) program which aims to double the share of renewable in the energy mix, by 2030. The program will support various initiatives of local companies to bring installed capacity from 1 GW, in 2015, to 5 GW in 2020, mainly via the support of the Lauca (2,067 MW), Soyo (750 MW) and Cambebe (960 MW) hydropower plants.
Presently, only 33% of the Angolan population (21 million) has access to electricity.
