Liberia signed with the European Union two funding agreements worth €59 million overall. These funds will be used to improve access to electricity of Liberian populations and reinforce the capacities of National Authorizing Office which is responsible for the coordination of the projects.
“Produce cheaper electricity is at the center of our strategy for economic transformation. Plants which would be active for 16 hours would employ more people, and should allow Liberians to have work day or night,” said Liberian Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Amara Konneh.
He also revealed the implementation of an Agenda for Transformation that extends over five years and represents a mid-term strategy of the country’s National Vision, by 2030.
It must be recalled that presently, less than 10% of Liberian have access to electricity.
