Algeria: Tahkout to start assembling Suzuki cars starting from May 2018

Friday, 08 December 2017 12:41

After having started assembling Hyundai cars in 2016, the Tahkout group is now getting ready to start assembling Suzuki cars, starting from May 2018, in Saïda, Algeria.

The development of the related assembly unit and its equipping will be completed before the end of the year, a statement indicates. This infrastructure will produce 10,000 cars per year, a capacity that the firm aims to increase in order to achieve a capacity of 100,000 vehicles per year in the next five years.

Two types of vehicles of the brand will be produced at the facility; those are the Suzuki Alto and the Suzuki Swift. Their commercialization is expected to begin in the second half of 2018.

This investment project by the Tahkout group will generate 400 jobs, for an initial cost of $450 million. 40% of these will be mobilized on own funds. Moreover, besides assembling cars, the group plans to later make engines and gearboxes for the cars it produces at the factory.
