Carthage Cement reinforces presence in Tunisia despite challenging export context

Wednesday, 19 October 2016 05:02

(Ecofin Agency) - At September 30, 2016, Carthage Cement’s turnover grew 17% compared to last year’s turnover, accounts audited by the firm show. From 125.5 million Tunisian dinars in 2015, the firm’s revenue surged to 149 million dinars this year, namely as a result of a 16% increase in orders on products.

Locally, the firm’s sales reached 95.12 million dinar, up 21% from 78.5 million in 2015. This growth helped Carthage Cement bring its positioning up 19% in Tunisia, against 15.47% in 2015. It recorded the highest growth rate for market share (3.5 pt) in a sector that slumped by 3.3% between 2015 and 2016.

In terms of exports, sales fell to 18.76 million dinar from January to September 2016, against 19 million in 2015, thus a 2% decrease. In Q3 2016, the decrease was greater at -16%. The firm said it was due to a lower demand from Algeria. Carthage Cement however remains the second when it comes to market shares for export, despite the segment shrinking by 23.24%.
