(Ecofin Agency) - In a statement released on May 18, State-oil Company NNPC said it has reopened its depot in Kano to boost petroleum products supply to the Northern part of Nigeria. The infrastructure was initially shut due to attacks from militants in the region.

“Today is a historic day for us in Kano. With the depot now back on stream, our people would have abundant petroleum products at their doorstep,” said Kano’s Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. “Most importantly, it will boost economic activities within our state,” he added.

For his part, Maikanti Baru (photo), Group Managing Director, NNPC, said the re-commissioning falls in line with President Buhari’s objective to revamp national oil assets.

It must be highlighted that the new development comes a while after facilities such as the Port Harcourt-Aba pipeline and Atlas Cove-Mosimi depot and pipeline were reopened. “Efforts are underway to re-commission order national assets such as the Jos, Gombe, Suleja and Gusau depots. Also, the remaining parts of Mosimi-Ibadan-Ilorin, as well as Aba-Enugu pipelines will soon test our collective resolve to get the nation’s critical oil and gas infrastructure back on stream,” Baru said.
