(Ecofin Agency) - At the official launching of a sharing workshop on keys to modernizing land management in Senegal which was organized by the Support Project to urban land management’s reform, Baye Moussa Ndoye, Head of the fiscal services centre said that land reform in the country could benefit from aligning with Act 3 of decentralization, Apanews reported.
Explaining that the Act 3 of decentralization mainly aims to “organize a viable, competitive territory that will foster local development”, he recalled that “the government established under the decree N0 2012- 14 19 of December 12, 2012, the National Commission for Land Reform which is tasked with reviewing the regulatory framework and providing an appropriate land policy. However, years ago, the Directorate General of Taxes and Properties, DGID, launched the modernization process for land management to improve transparency and prevent conflicts while bolstering investments”.
PAGEF’s workshop should thus contribute to developing a land reform that will respond to the various land-related challenges that Senegal currently faces.
Funded by the European Union, the project since October 2015 is in its second phase which should end in March 2017. Once again, it should be recalled that Senegalese authorities expect the project to help develop a more efficient land reform.
