Chinese glass manufacturer CSG Holding announced on Monday that its board of directors approved the construction of a photovoltaic glass factory in Egypt, representing an investment of 1.755 billion yuan ($247 million).
The industrial site is planned to have a production capacity of 1,400 tons per day. It will feature five lines for laminated photovoltaic glass and four processing lines for tempering and coating, according to the company statement.
Construction is slated to begin once necessary government approvals are secured and is expected to span a three-year period. CSG Holding cited Egypt’s strategic location at the crossroads of the Middle East and Africa as offering "geographic advantages and abundant resources."
The investment is the latest in a series of moves by Chinese solar equipment groups establishing a presence in Egypt to better position themselves in the high-growth African and Middle Eastern markets.
In August, Chinese firm JA Solar signed an agreement with local partners to install a factory with 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar panel capacity and 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of battery energy storage systems.
Earlier, in March 2025, Kibing Solar announced plans to build a photovoltaic glass plant in Egypt with an annual production capacity of 1.53 million tons of glass and 1.08 million tons of high-purity silica sand. Six months prior, China Glass Holdings began construction on a 2.23 billion yuan ($313 million) glass plant in the country, with a daily capacity of 1,000 tons of float glass and 800 tons of ultra-clear photovoltaic glass.
The increased investment follows a surge in demand from the continent. African countries imported a total of 15,032 megawatts (MW) of Chinese solar panels during the 12 months ending June 30, 2025, a 60% jump from the 9,379 MW imported during the preceding 12 months, according to an August report by the think tank Ember.
