AngloGold Ashanti output drops 45% at Guinea’s Siguiri mine in Q3 2025

  • Siguiri mine produced 39,000 ounces of gold in the third quarter of 2025
  • Output fell after heavy rains caused a plant shutdown during the period
  • Company expects 8% production increase in 2025 as operations resume

In its financial report released on November 11, AngloGold Ashanti announced attributable production of 39,000 ounces of gold from its Siguiri mine in Guinea, where it holds an 85% stake. This represents a 45% year-on-year decline compared with the consolidated output reported for the same period in 2024 and contrasts with the upward trend recorded during the first two quarters of the year.

In August, Ecofin Agency reported a 28% year-on-year increase in Siguiri’s production for the first half of 2025. However, from July to September, mining operations were disrupted by a plant shutdown following water infiltration caused by heavy rainfall during the wet season. This incident halted ore processing at the site, which in turn reduced production despite continued mining activity during the quarter.

Despite the setback, AngloGold Ashanti remains optimistic for the full year, forecasting an 8% rise in output at Siguiri in 2025. The company plans to process in the coming months the ore mined in the third quarter, as operations at the processing plant have already resumed.

During the first months of 2025, AngloGold Ashanti extracted 204,000 ounces of gold from Siguiri. Including the Guinean government’s 15% interest, total mine output reached 240,000 ounces over the period. The company had previously reported consolidated annual production of 273,000 ounces in 2024, equivalent to 321,170 ounces on a 100% basis.
