Senegal and Guinea have agreed to boost their bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including mining, energy, infrastructure, fishing, and culture. The announcement followed a working visit by Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to Conakry, where he met with his Guinean counterpart, Amadou Oury Bah.
The two leaders announced the creation of a technical committee to coordinate and accelerate shared development initiatives. The Guinean Prime Minister's Office shared details of the agreement on June 2, 2025.
“I came here to discuss with my counterpart ways to make both a qualitative and quantitative leap by pooling our resources together in order to jointly build shared development in a complementary manner,” Sonko said.
The meeting followed the 6th session of the Grand Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, held May 22–23, 2025, after a 17-year break. During the session, 15 cooperation agreements were signed in areas such as trade, fishing, justice, security, and tourism.
Senegal and Guinea share strong cultural, economic, and political ties and collaborate on several cross-border projects. Their trade includes food industry residues, fish, and crustaceans, with total trade volume reaching $164.25 million in 2023, according to the International Trade Centre.
