(Ecofin Agency) - Daily gas supply to power plants has risen by 64%, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)’s Financial and Operations Report for May 2017 has shown.
According to the report, average gas supply to power plants rose to 729 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (Mmscfd) in May 2017, a 63.74% increase compared to the 446mmscfd, recorded the same month in 2016.
Meanwhile, average daily gas production for May 2017 stood at 7,829.11mmscfd, a slight increase compared with April gas production of 672mmscfd.
It noted that NNPC, during the period initiated plans to construct a 500million standard cubic feet of gas-per-day metering plant to serve the planned capacity expansion of the Egbin Power Plant from its installed capacity of 1,320 Megawatts to 2670MW.
Nigeria has a total installed electricity capacity of 12,522MW. In spite of the average national daily gas supply to power plants, power generation in the country still fluctuates between 3,656.40MW and 4,345.5MW.
