(Ecofin Agency) - What if the answer to conflicts related to state domains attribution was a database? Well, this is the option that the Burundian minister of environment, Celestin Ndayizeye, went for, he revealed to Bonesha Fm. The official told the radio station that works to identify state domains have commenced in this framework.
“A team of investigators is currently busily working. Amongst documents requested by these investigators, in addition to testimonies of neighbors or associations, the investigated must present attribution letters issued by distinct authorities. In the cases where the lands were awarded by institutions with no authority to so, the lands will be returned to the State. The operation will be conducted thoroughly to avoid conflicts in the future. The database will enable the ministry direct public authorities to develop projects depending on available lands,” the minister said.
The works in question should lead to the establishment of a data bank with “reliable and precise information”.
