(Ecofin Agency) - Yesterday, Morocco’s king Mohammed VI commissioned the Africa Fertilizer Complex (AFC) in Jorf Lasfar. The commissioning of this fertilizer-producing factory whose output will mainly go to sub-Saharan Africa marks the fulfilling of a commitment of the kingdom made to sub-Saharan nations.
Truly, Mohammed VI previously promised to participate to the development of agriculture of these countries by supplying them good quality fertilizer. An amount of 5.3 billion dirham was mobilized to build the facility. Yearly, it produces 1.4 million tons of sulfuric acid, a million ton of fertilizer and 450,000 tons of phosphoric acid. It can also stock up to 200,000 tons of fertilizer and is powered by a 62 MW thermoelectric plant. Telquel.ma indicated that the AFC would generate 380 direct jobs.
Let us recall that Mohammed VI made the announcement regarding the implementation of this factory in 2014 during its African tour.
