The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has just announced a financial aid of FCfa 300 million to Côte d’Ivoire. This funding is intended to help the country in the fight against the avian influenza which has been hitting the country since 2015.
According to Germain Dasylva, FAO representative in Côte d’Ivoire, this sum will be used to implement an active monitoring of the poultry sector in order to prevent a spread of the disease throughout the country. As part of this, the authorities have already forbidden the import and trade of poultry coming from countries infected by H5N1.
In addition to Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana Burkina Faso and Nigeria are also affected by the disease. Benin and Togo have so far been spared.
