Cote d’Ivoire sold 940,000 tonnes of cocoa by anticipation for2017-18 season

(Ecofin Agency) - At May 26, Cote d’Ivoire sold by anticipation about 940,000 tonnes of cocoa of the 2017-18 harvest, Reuters was told by two anonymous sources close to the matter.

Moreover, the Coffee and Cocoa Council (CCC) plans to sell 1.2 million tonnes of the beans by the end of September, the sources said.

It should be recalled that in November 2016, Cote d’Ivoire had halted its electronic auction for the 2017-18 season, as global cocoa prices slumped to their lowest in three years.

The country has sold by anticipation 1.3 million tonnes of cocoa for the 2016-17 season, of which 220,000 tonnes to foreign companies with no activity across the territory.
