Côte d’Ivoire: Alassane Ouattara to implement series of reforms in rubber and palm oil industries

Monday, 04 January 2016 18:47

(Ecofin Agency) - President Alassane Ouattara from Côte d’Ivoire promised to implement a significant number of reforms in the rubber and palm oil industries this year. Addressing the nation, the president revealed his intention to “improve producers’ revenues” through these measures.

Government wants to insure that the rubber sector is still attractive for producers despite the current fall in prices of the commodity for which Côte d’Ivoire is the leading producer with 213,000 tons. Rubber is presently sold at 255 Fcfa per kg.

As for palm oil, it is most vital considering the fact that “nearly two million people, that is about 10% of the population, depend on it”.

Fifth producer of the commodity worldwide, the Ivorian nation processes about 1.6 million tons yearly.
