(Ecofin Agency) - Indorama Eleme Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL), one of Nigeria’s main fertilizer suppliers, plans to produce 750, 000 tons of urea during the next agricultural season. Sanjay Srivastava, the sales and marketing manager told Dailytrust.

The manager said that the company also plans, in line with the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI), to double the volume of fertilizer it supplies to the country from 180, 000 tons to 360, 000 tons this year. Validated in December 2016 by President Buhari, the PFI is a directive to reduce fertilizer imports and make it available and affordable for farmers.

For the record, the company operates the world’s largest urea production plant with an installed capacity of 1.4 million tons yearly in Rivers state, Southern Nigeria. It plans to create Africa’s largest petrochemical hub in Nigeria through a $5.8 billion investment by 2022.
