Mozambique now has the biggest plant nursery of Africa

Friday, 11 September 2015 05:16

(Ecofin Agency) - Mozambique has just inaugurated the biggest plant nursery of the continent. This structure meant for the production of 12 million eucalyptus seedlings per year was achieved thanks to a USD 7 million investment from Portuguese Portucel Soporcel and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The factory which covers 7.5 hectares in the Ile district (Zambezi province), is part of a much larger project which will cater in the next nine years for the construction of a paper pulp plant in the neighbouring district of Mocuba. This establishment will enable the creation of 7,000 jobs and the production of electricity from biomass, confided Pedro Moura, President of Portucel Mozambique, in Macauhub.

Once completed, the project will generate approximately USD 1 billion for the Mozambican economy.

Ecofin Agency provides daily coverage of nine key African economic sectors: public management, finance, telecoms, agribusiness, mining, energy, transport, communication, and education.
It also designs and manages specialized media, both online and print, for African institutions and publishers.
