Morocco: Japanese technology likely to boost agricultural yield

Monday, 14 March 2016 18:18

(Ecofin Agency) - The Porous Alpha is a system which aims at improving water management in Agriculture. The procedure, which was experimented in the Souss-Massa region on vegetables such as green beans helped increase by 22% yield, by saving 50% of water used. With these results, the Japanese firm Tottori Resource Recycling Inc who is behind Porous Alpha obtained approval from Morocco’s ministry of agriculture and fishery as well as from regional office for agricultural valorization in Souss-Massa (Ormvasm) for the eventual commercialization of its system.

The firm will train producers that took part in the experimental stage to the installation of Porous Alpha, so that they are enabled to install the system for other producers. It is likely that Porous Alpha will attract many as Morocco is few months away from holding COP22, climate conference which will be key to concretize commitments taken during the last COP talks in Paris.
