FAO warns about potential locust invasion in Northern Africa

Thursday, 14 April 2016 13:04

A threat of locust invasion looms over North Africa. Truly, UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization revealed that Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania could suffer this disaster if precautions are not taken.

FAO said North-Western African nations should monitor the locusts’ reproduction zones. The colonies were discovered in Yemen. The institution put the accent on Morocco’s Draa Valley and the Zouerate region in Mauritania. It must be highlighted that these locust are already gathering in small groups in these countries, which is why taking the necessary precautions is urgent.

In Madagascar, locusts, floods and drought were the three plagues that impaired the country’s agricultural results last year.
