Sunéor takeover: After April, Olam?

Friday, 16 October 2015 15:56

(Ecofin Agency) - In Senegal, the Singaporean Olam could be the latest potential buyer of Sunéor to date.

According to Les Afriques, the Senegalese State is currently in discussion with the trader. If up until now no figure has been mentioned, the operation should however be finalised shortly.

Olam overtures occur whereas some months earlier the French group Avril did not achieve its goals on this dossier. If the media announced that the company had reached agreement behind-the-scenes with the principal shareholder of Sunéor to takeover two processing plants, the transaction was vetoed by the Executive, opposed to the dismantling of Sunéor.

Owned by the businessman Abbas Jabber, Sunéor was at one time in its history the African leader in groundnut oil.

Ecofin Agency provides daily coverage of nine key African economic sectors: public management, finance, telecoms, agribusiness, mining, energy, transport, communication, and education.
