Angola bans re-export of imported food products

Friday, 19 February 2016 15:04

(Ecofin Agency) - In Angola, re-export of food products has been banned. This decision was taken by the government’s economic team. According to Macauhub, this was decided as a result of massive re-export of products initially imported for local consumption.

This situation which has been present for months now mainly involves sugar, rice, beans, corn flour or cooking oil. Angolese Minister of trade said the new measure will not concern locals living by borders who have to sell food products to survive. So, from now on, export licences for local products will have to be endorsed by the ministerial department in charge of the products in question.

This means that, “if someone wants to export cassava they have to request prior authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture,” Angola’s Minister of Trade, Rosa Pacavira said.
