Uganda: Coffee export dropped by 11.4% in April 2018

(Ecofin Agency) - At the end of April 2018, Uganda’s coffee shipments stood at 295,194 bags, down 11.4% compared to the volume a month earlier (333,346 bags).

According to the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) which reported the news, the beans shipments generated only $32.73 million during the period under review as main season ended in the Central and Eastern regions affecting the volume exported.

Let’s note that the European Union (62.3%), Sudan (12.8%), the USA (8.5%), Morocco (4.3%) and India (4.8%) captured the most of the shipments. Back in 2017, Uganda exported 4.3 million bags of coffee for about $545 million. The subsector generates ¼ of the country’s foreign exchange earnings and employs 500,000 farmers.
