Egypt withdraws Emirati wheat supplier AOS from licensed sellers list

Thursday, 19 July 2018 17:58

(Ecofin Agency) - Egyptian government removed Dubai-based trading firm AOS from the list of licensed wheat suppliers after multiple delays in the delivery of shipments, Reuters reports.

According to Egyptian authorities, the company failed last May to fulfil its commitment to deliver two cargoes of 60,000 tons despite being granted extensions, and subsequently cancelled one of the orders.

Authorities said the move does not affect the delivery contract of 120,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian State-buyer (GASC) approved July 18 to the company. AOS accounts for 20% of Egypt's total wheat requirements, including 700,000 tons of grain to GASC per annum. Let’s recall that the country spends nearly $1.5 billion annually on wheat import.
