Ghana: 2017-18 cocoa purchases reaches 700, 000 tons

Monday, 21 May 2018 18:07

(Ecofin Agency) - By early May, Cocobod’s cocoa purchases from approved trading companies reached 700, 000 tons, for the 2017/2018 season.

This volume which is a 50, 000 tons increase from previous month, could peak at 800,000 tons by the close of the main season at the end of this month, sources told Reuters. However, these good figures contrast with concerns about production level raised last March by authorities for fear of dry conditions in growing areas. This led the country to eye 700 000 tons in 2017/2018 which is a decrease from the 950 000 tons a year earlier.

Let’s recall that the main season accounts for 90% of Ghana's production.
