Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:01

(Ecofin Agency) - In Mali, the cotton season is progressing well while the authorities have just announced that 97% of areas dedicated to the crop have been seeded.

According to the Malian Textiles Company (CMDT), the production target of 650,000 metric tons could be reached. “97% is a satisfactory level and for the remaining 3%, we will be able to seed them while focusing on getting higher yields” Ousmane Traoré, technical adviser at CMDT, declared to Reuters.

The government official also highlighted that the attainment of 650, 000 metric tons will be reached provided that the good levels of rainfall currently experienced continue.

During the 2014/2015 season, the country had a total crop of 550,000 metric tons.
