Ghana : Government considers establishment of regulatory organ for cashew sector

(Ecofin Agency) - Ghana is considering the establishment of regulatory organ for its cashew sector, said Dr. Yakubu Alhassan from Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA). The official revealed this at the launch of an international meeting that gathered 70 experts of the sector in the Ghana.

Dr Alhassan added that the institution would help develop an environment that will promote growth of cashew output and provide a formal frame for interactions between the government and actors of the sector. Also, it will be a major key for the adoption of good agricultural practices by cashew farmers.

During the meeting the official also recalled that his ministry just initiated a 10-year plan to development the cashew sector. The plan projects Ghana’s cashew output to 150,000 tons from 70,000 tons in 2015 while boosting access to the commodity for local processors.
