EU releases FCfa 42.75 billion for Senegalese agriculture

(Ecofin Agency) - The European Union has just donated FCfa 42.575 billion to Senegal. Out this funding, FCfa 39.3 billion will go to the the Senegal Emergent Program (PSE).

Through this support, the EU wishes to contribute to food security, improve the performances of a competitive, diversified and sustainable agriculture as described in the PSE” Joaquin Gonzalez-Duray (photo), chief of the EU mission in Senegal, declared.

The EU official also indicated that this donation which will be released over three years and will be given to the Senegalese government depending on the progress of the Increased Senegalese Agriculture Rate Programme (PRACAS – Programme d’Accélération de la Cadence de l’Agriculture Sénégalaise).

To recall, one of the challenges of this programme is reaching rice self-sufficiency in the country by 2017.
