Tunisia: Olive oil export to generate $785 million in 2017/2018

Monday, 28 May 2018 20:30

Tunisian government expects to collect TND2 billion ($ 785 million) from olive oil export for the 2017-18 season, Samir Taieb (photo) the agriculture minister announced last May 24.

This forecast is owing to good prospects for both production system and export segment. Indeed, while the country’s output is set to reach 280,000 tons by the end of the season next October, exports will hit 200,000 tons.

Let’s note that between last November 1 and April 30, oilseed shipments generated TND1.36 billion, slightly less than three times the revenues collected the same period last year (TND484 million).

The U.S. Department of Agriculture indicated that in this country, about 88 million olive trees are grown over a third of the total arable land.
