Tuesday, 29 May 2018 16:59

(Ecofin Agency) - Egypt has so far exported 2.8 million tons of horticulture products since the ongoing 2018 season begun. This was revealed in a report issued by the managerial administration of Agricultural Products Quarantine under the agriculture ministry.

Out of this volume, citrus and potatoes account respectively for 1.9 million tons and 672, 000 tons. Other export items include onion, strawberry, pepper, mango, grape, cucumber and eggplant.

According to Abdel El-Banna, the agriculture minister, this strong performance in export is the result of recent government efforts to ensure products’ quality and safety for consumption.

Let’s recall orange is the main citrus exported by the Pharaoh’s country which is world’s second-largest exporter after Spain.  The fruit is grown over nearly 147,000 hectares in Egypt.
