Nigeria to export yam to Europe at the end of June

Tuesday, 30 May 2017 17:26

(Ecofin Agency) - Nigeria will export June-ending its first container of yam to Europe. This was revealed by Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, in Abuja.

On the 29th of June this year, the first container of yams will be leaving the shores of Nigeria for UK,” he said. “Yes, we have been dealing with vegetable and lot of other produce already and we will continue to be selling pulses mainly beans and cowpeas to India,” he added.

The official said the country will, in two years, return to its lost glory in terms of agriculture as the government seeks to diversify the economy from oil, its main exports.

In 2016, as global prices of oil plunged, the country slumped into recession for the first time in 25 years.
