Wednesday, 08 July 2015 13:50

In Benin the government has set a goal of 500,000 metric tons for the cotton production during the 2015-2016 season. To reach it, the executive have decided to put in place incentives in favour of the producers.

As related by an official communiqué transnmitted by APA, “the Beninese government has decided, to not only offer them 100 tractor kits in order to relieve them of the hardship of their work, but it has also decided to allocate FCfa30 billion towards payment for the previous season”.

The success of this season is of strategic importance for the country due to crucial role of the cotton sector in the national economy. Indeed, the white gold generates 80% of the country’s export revenue, feeds 3 million people and contributes up to 13% to Benin GDP. During the previous season, production reached 393,000 metric tons.
