Mozambique province of Zambeze to benefit from Vietnamese rice culture project

Wednesday, 08 July 2015 21:24

(Ecofin Agency) - Vietnam has just announced an investment of US$2 million in the development of rice seeds for a production project in Mozambique. This initiative is taking place in the Zambeze province and is geared towards ensuring food safety in this region which faced floods at the beginning of the year.

The investment is also meant to strengthen Hanoï’s influence in a country where the Vietnamese historic operator Viettel already has the third mobile telephone licence. If in 2014, the bilateral trade between the two countries only represented US$100 million, Nguyen Van Trung, Vietnamese ambassador in Mozambique, declared that his country is working at increasing this value in a significant way.

As a show of this commitment, a Vietnamese delegation will take part for the first time in the Maputo International Fair which will take place from 31st August till 6th September this year.
