Tired of rumours which poisoned the political and social life in Gabon, the office of the President decided to launch on this 17th July an anti-rumour website www.stop-kongossa.com.
“So in order to inform the public, who is sometimes misled by these rumours and misinformation, the Office of the President will launch online, from tomorrow Friday 17 July 2015, a information website fixed and guaranteed by the communication units of the Office of the President, dedicated to put the truth back in the heart of the political debate and to counter all rumours harming the image of Gabon,” said the communication unit of the Office of the President.
One of the rumours they are trying to smother, is that Gabon is a country which tramples on freedom of expression and the press. “Gabon, which has climbed up 31 places since 2009 in the global ranking of freedom of the press published by Reporters Without Borders in 2015, has a diverse media landscape with 39 newspapers, 16 information websites, 13 television channels and over twenty radio stations.” maintains the Office of the President. “Not only do the newspapers come out every day, for sale in the newspapers stands and in the streets, but more importantly these newspapers and media deal with all topics, including the ones which, in other countries, would not be acceptable”.
