"Bring knowledge close to the population" such is the mission assigned to the future digital university TV which will emerge in Senegal. And the channel could be launched this year in 2015. "Our wish is that if we have the required authorisation before the end of the year 2015, that at least an embryonic national version is operational", said the Minister of Higher Education and Research, Mary Teuw Niane (photo).
He adds: "The setting up of the digital TV gives us an excellent opportunity to broadcast results of science and technology, programmes promoting scientific culture and reach people wherever they are, without the need to invest in very heavy equipment."
The challenge for him is to make Senegalese citizens understand "the need to make higher education, research and innovation a national priority". In addition, the university television will enable the sale of content from Senegalese teachers/researchers.
The project to create a digital university television is backed by the National Committee piloting the transition from an analogue to digital platform (CONTAN). The executive director of this Committee, Amadou Top, says that it is already possible to set up production and broadcast studios.
