The men’s African basketball championship is shown on the channels of the French group Canal+ which, in 2014 reached 1.5 million subscribers on the African continent.
Canal+ acquired the broadcasting rights to the African basketball championship which started this 19 August 2015 in Tunisia, to conclude on 30 August. This competition takes place every 2 years.
In a press release, Canal+ announced that it will broadcast live the best matches of the tournament. Expert analysis and comments from sports pundits will also be available.
By recently launching 4 new sports channels (Canal+ Sport 1, Canal+ Sport 2, Canal+ Sport 3 and Canal+ Sport 4), Canal+ has announced that these channels “will benefit from the acquisition of numerous new broadcasting rights in all major sports”. Canal+ has made Africa a priority market, source of growth. In 2 years, the number of subscriptions has more than doubled, to reach 1.5 million by end 2014.
Moreover, Canal+ is deploying a zoning and land occupation strategy where it finally accepts to create partnerships with local cable television distributors for the supply of its channels, but with exclusion to competitors such as channels BeInSports or Super Sport from the South African operator Dstv.
