Despite pro-gay programmes being strongly opposed in Africa, PrideTV, the only LGBTQ streaming platform of the continent just added freemium to its platform. Now, in addition to its premium content which can be accessed via a $5.5 monthly subscription, Pride TV offers free video content which requires no subscription.

“In freemium, we have gathered the best of the web content,” says Joanne Raphael Katz, PrideTV’s spokesperson. According to her, the channel, being the flag-bearer of LGBTQ audiovisual entertainment in Africa, it has to prove its commitment to providing quality content to this community.

Discussing the upcoming projects of the channel, Joanne Raphael Katz said it plans to acquire more short-length videos. “Short form is best suited to our mobile streamers where we have 300 million smartphone users in Africa,” she said.
