Gabonese Minister of Communication, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé, has decided to trust Prime Minister to arbitrate the battle opposing him to private media regarding press subsidy.
The Minister of Communication, denouncing press firms refusal to conform to regulation, established a commission which from February 15 to February 29 examined applications submitted for public subsidy.
According to Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé,, the press ignored the commission. Only 33 applications have been submitted and examined, he said. “No media meets the criteria imposed by the law 12/2001 of December 12, 2001 on audiovisual, cinematographic and written communication in Gabon,” he added
Highlighting that the law should be respected, the minister of communication has thus decided to trust the Prime Minister to resolve the dispute. “No matter how much ink or saliva we waste, one thing is sure: a certain number of conditions must be met before receiving the subsidy. And no matter the complaints of some, this won’t change, even if it means that nobody will have access to the subsidy,” he declared.
