Guinea-Bissau’s authorities allow Portuguese media to restart operations

Tuesday, 07 November 2017 13:38

On November 1, Guinea’s Prime Minister has authorized the Portuguese radio and TV channel, RTP and RDP, to restart their activities in the country. “I authorize, with immediate effect, the broadcasting of programmes on the RTP and RDP signals,” M. Lusa Umaro Sissoco Embaló (picture) declared during the last council of ministers.

The official explained that an agreement has been reached between the governments of Guinea-Bissau and Portugal for the restart to be effective by November 8. The activities of the two broadcasters were suspended by the government of Guinea-Bissau last June 30, after the agreement allowing their operations in the country had become obsolete.

Finally, as desired by the authorities of Guinea-Bissau, the agreement was revised.
