Fox to launch National Geographic in Africa, in 2018

Friday, 08 December 2017 19:17

Fox will make available National Geographic in Africa, via entertainment platform Cell C. This at the beginning of 2018. The news was revealed to Variety by Jan Koeppen (picture), CEO Europe & Africa Fox networks group.

It is the first time that the channel will be available in Africa outside of linear Tv canals. The goal here is to create “binge watching” for the documentaries.

Made popular by Netflix, binge watching consists in watching many episodes of a Tv programme at a time. According to Jan Koeppen, video on demand, which is closely linked to binge watching, is often associated with TV series, thus documentaries could also be the same.

With Cell C’s video service Black, Fox also will allow to download National Geographic’s emissions, a way to adapt to the African market where downloading is much popular than online streaming.
