Canal 3 TV comes out of its Benin cocoon expanding to West Africa, broadcasting in 4 languages: Hausa, Savanna, Wolof and French. Beninese firm Canal Holdings who is in charge of editing these TV channels just signed a long term contract with satellite operator SES S.A, one of the biggest in the world.
Canal 3 channels which are going to be paid-for will be broadcasted in West Africa through two of SES S.A satellites: Astra 2G satellite 28.3 degrees East and SES-5 at 5 degrees East. “We are glad to have been chosen to be part of Canal Holdings’ ambitious growth plans in Africa, and to be able to broadcast their service in Nigeria, Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso and Senegal,” said Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, Senior Vice-President at SES’ Afria Commercial Division.
The Canal 3 TV offer comprises at least 7 channels namely: Canal 3 Benin, Canal 3 Cinéma , Canal 3 Fongbe, Canal 3 MBOA , Canal 3 Monde , Canal 3 Niger and Canal 3 Star.
The contract with SES S.A. is part of Canal Holdings’ expansion plan in Africa. In February 2015, it launched a pan-African service named SeeAfrika which offers no less than 70 national and international TV stations. This service was first available in Benin, Niger and Burkina Faso. The aim here was to cover all African French-speaking nations (21 countries and 205 million people) and Nigeria (180 million people). For the broadcasting of the SeeAfrika service, Canal Holdings has contracted Eutelsat, another world-class satellite operator.
